Milestones
Chronological events / mile stones:
- Conceived the idea of building a memorial for Sri Purandara Dasaru in 1989 while the founder S. Varadarajan was employed in Nigeria.
- Organized several music programs both in Nigeria and India since then to popularize ‘Dasara kritis’
- After returning to India in 1993, ‘Annual aradhana’ functions were held at the then residence of S.Varadarajan at Banashankari II Stage, Bangalore
- TRUST was formally registered in August 2007
- A temporary hall (of about 600 Sft) was constructed at Kumaraswamy layout II Stage, Bangalore to carry on the activities of the TRUST. Named “Purandara Sabhangana”, it was inaugurated during Feb. 2008 by well known celebrity Dr. Srinath (then MLC of Karnataka). A life size portrait of Sri Purandara Dasa was unveiled by Gana Kesari Sri Shashidhar Kote.
- TRUST got the recognition as Charitable trust by Dept. of Income tax during 2009 and obtained exemption under Sec. 80 (G) of IT act for all donations.
- Construction of the new memorial complex started in Mid. 2012 and completed in June 2013.
- Trust got overwhelming response from a host of donors for construction during 2012-13.
- Several leading musicians / harikatha vidwans from Karnataka have performed at the TRUST premises.
- Newly constructed memorial was declared open by HH Sri Sri Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji on 14th June 2013.
