Sri Purandara Dasa Memorial Trust (SPDMT) was deeply moved by the fact that a memorial did not exist for the great Saint composer Sri Purandara Dasaru who reportedly penned about 475000 kritis packing the essence of Vedas, Unpanishads and other holy scriptures into his compositions in simple Kannada. He richly deserved a grand memorial, alas that did not happen till 2013! With a great resolve, SPDMT built and dedicated a memorial for “Dasa Shreshta” in the year 2013, perhaps the one and only one of its kind in the world which would remain a monument of pride for the entire state as well as Kannadigas all over the world.
Out of the 475000 kritis composed by him, it is unfortunate that only a few thousand are in print and the rest have remained unpublished, perhaps not even traceable. Our TRUST aims at preserving those and propagating his message to the world.
SPDMT was founded by S.Vardadrajan, an Engineer by Profession and an ardent follower of Sri Purandara Dasa, always had an urge to do something for spreading the message of the great Saint. He along with a few like minded friends and associates formally registered the trust in 2007.
SPDMT has been organizing music concerts, lectures, dance recitals etc. for over two decades in an effort to propagate the message of the great saint composer, especially to the gennext, inculcating the spirit of the universal brotherhood and sacrifice. Part with ‘finite’, attain the ‘infinite’ which Dasa preached, practised and demonstrated, a simple way to salvation.
His compositions carry a message for people from all walks of life, for all generations for all time to come. Kritis unmatched in variety, message and number, perhaps none will ever equal him! Regarded as ' Dasa Shreshta', ' Sangeeta Pitamaha', He is a rare combination of the likes of Buddha, Chanakya & several luminaries, never to be matched.
Dasa in his numerous compositions exhorted the people to chant Purandara Vittla, the name of Universal Lord, as panacea for liberating oneself from the clutches of desires and material pursuits.
Trust has the blessing of HH Sri Sri Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, Udupi.
